In 2020, with the world shutting down due to the pandemic, my days opened up. For the first time since childhood, I had hours to observe wild flowers, dawn light, decaying leaves, shadows of plants on the sidewalk. Right next to the multiple losses due to Covid-19, I discovered abundance in nature. Filled with wonder and discovery, I began to paint the bounty I was finding outside my door I am interested in themes of emergence, unfolding, and expansion as is found by spending time in the natural world.

The tension created by exploring differences excites me. Smooth surfaces next to rough textures, small details next to open spaces, dark values next to highlights, warm hues next to cool tones are all areas I like to investigate. My inquiry regarding the ways opposites exists at the same time both in life and on the canvas is one I invite the viewer to explore with me.
